NWRC Research Areas: Information Services Unit

The NWRC Library provides information resources and research support to WS staff and the public. Resources primarily focus on wildlife damage, wildlife damage management, wildlife diseases, ornithology, mammalogy, veterinary medicine, analytical chemistry, genetics, and ecology. The library maintains several digitized collections and continues to digitize content for users.   

Resources include:  

Print Collection 

Over 7,000 titles on topics relating to wildlife damage management.

• Grey literature (reports, pamphlets, factsheets, technical papers, etc.) 

Digital Collections 

Research publications and digitized/digital grey literature.

• NWRC Annual Reports – reports highlighting yearly research spotlights, project accomplishments, awards and publications.
• Wildlife Services Living with Wildlife Activity Sheets – children’s activity sheets highlighting certain wildlife species and ways to prevent their damage to natural resources, agriculture or human health and safety.

The NWRC Archives collects, preserves, and makes available records and materials that document the history of WS.  Records include those created by the NWRC, WS, and their predecessors (i.e., Denver Wildlife Research Center (DWRC), Animal Damage Control (ADC), and the Bureau of Biological Survey (BBS)) and date from the late 19^th century to the present.

Collection types include:  

• Research records: Records documenting research and research support units, field stations, and individual scientists. Major areas of research include bird, predator, and rodent control, wildlife disease, and chemical analysis. Example: Bird Damage Unit Records
• Operational records: Records created by WS/ADC state offices. Example: ADC Annual Reports Collection 
• Unpublished reports: Internal research reports authored by NWRC scientists. (Contact archivist for access.) 
• USDA/BBS: Historic reports and publications reports created by USDA, FWS, and BBS. Example: BBS Field Reports and Maps 
• Images: Born-digital and analog photographs and slides documenting research and operations. Wildlife Services Image Collection
