NWRC Research Scientists: Dr. Jimmy Taylor

Dr. Jimmy Taylor is an assistant director for the NWRC. He previously served as the field station leader for NWRC's Oregon field station in Corvallis where he worked to reduce damage by forest and aquatic mammals.

Dr. Taylor is also a courtesy faculty member in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University, an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Portland State University, and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University.

Dr. Taylor's areas of expertise include social behavior, habitat utilization, trophic interactions, and non-lethal management tools with aquatic furbearers, bears, cervids, corvids, gallinaceous birds, and rodents.

From 2002-2006, Dr. Taylor was a research wildlife biologist at the NWRC Mississippi field station where his research focused on identifying and reducing impacts of fish-eating birds on aquaculture and recreational fisheries. 

Research Project

This project aims to advance and disseminate knowledge that improves tools, techniques, and strategies to reduce damage inflicted in forested and aquatic areas by herbivorous and omnivorous mammals.

  • Understanding beaver-salmonid relationships in the Pacific Northwest
  • Quantifying the economic impact of black bear peeling in Pacific Northwest forests
  • Improving techniques to reduce herbivory during forest stand initiation
  • Quantifying the effects of ravens on greater sage-grouse nest success
