Foreign Service

The APHIS Foreign Service is the foundation for our work overseas. Our officers form lasting relationships in-country, representing America at the highest levels abroad to safeguard U.S. agricultural health.

Our Foreign Service Officers are trained diplomats and technical experts who thrive in a global environment and have a passion for public service. In collaboration with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, the APHIS Foreign Service applies scientific knowledge to help resolve plant and animal health issues in a variety of dynamic, challenging settings.

Our work supports two critical missions—keeping U.S. agriculture healthy and ensuring market opportunities for American producers.
